Project Objectives
What we set out to achieve
Clear 40 acres of mixed hardwood and softwood forest for a phased residential subdivision
Preserve a 5-acre environmental buffer zone along the creek as required by the conservation authority
Achieve rough grade elevations within ±50mm tolerance for roads and lot grading
Implement comprehensive erosion and sediment control per the approved ESC plan
What We Did
Our step-by-step approach to project success
Mobilized a fleet of 3 excavators, 2 dozers, and a feller buncher with a 12-person crew
Installed perimeter silt fencing, check dams, and a temporary sediment basin before clearing began
Systematically cleared in phases, starting from the high ground and working toward the creek buffer
Processed 2,800 cubic metres of timber into merchantable logs and wood chips for recycling
Performed stump grinding and root grubbing to 300mm below subgrade across all road allowances
Completed rough grading using GPS-guided dozers, achieving design grades for all 65 lots and internal roads

Obstacles we overcame during the project
Discovery of an unmarked abandoned well required environmental assessment and proper decommissioning
Persistent wet weather in week 3 required modified ESC measures and schedule adjustment
Conservation authority required real-time monitoring of the creek turbidity during adjacent clearing operations

All 40 acres cleared and graded 4 days ahead of the contracted schedule
Zero conservation authority violations—all creek buffer zones maintained intact
Rough grades verified by surveyor to be within ±30mm tolerance, exceeding the ±50mm requirement
Developer proceeded immediately to servicing phase, saving an estimated 2 weeks of project timeline
