What we set out to achieve
Excavate a 16x32 ft pool with a 3ft shallow end, 8ft deep end, and attached spa cutout
Grade and compact the surrounding 600 sq ft patio area for interlock installation
Manage all excavated soil including export of excess material from the residential property
Protect existing mature landscaping and underground irrigation system during excavation

Performed utility locates and hand-exposed the irrigation mainline to plan equipment routing
Marked the precise pool layout including depth transitions, bench seats, and spa attachment point
Excavated to exact pool specifications using a GPS-equipped excavator with tilt-rotating bucket
Exported 85 cubic metres of excess soil and redistributed 30 cubic metres for property grading
Graded and compacted the patio area with granular base material for interlock pavers
Installed dewatering well points to manage high water table conditions during pool shell installation
Challenges & Solutions
Obstacles we overcame during the project
Narrow 3-metre side yard access required use of a compact excavator for initial access digging
High water table at 1.5m depth required continuous dewatering during the pool shell installation window
Client requested a last-minute spa expansion, requiring on-site redesign of the excavation profile
Results & Outcomes

Pool excavation completed within 3 days, ahead of the pool contractor's scheduled shell delivery
All depth transitions and bench seats were within 25mm of the pool manufacturer's specifications
Zero damage to existing landscaping, fencing, or irrigation systems
Pool contractor confirmed excavation quality as 'the best we've worked with this season'
